Competitive Advantage

“An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.”

– Jack Welch

Jack is spot on with this point. If an organization is going to be responsive to its environment, a multitude of things need to happen, but two primary things have to happen. First, the organization has to understand where it is in relation to its environment. It is almost impossible to develop competitive advantage without a deep understanding of one’s market dynamics/drivers, competitor strengths and limitations, as well as, an honest assessment of one’s core competencies. Secondly, an organization must be capable of rapidly assimilating that information into action and execution. The first one can be difficult for some organizations, but the second really reveals the functional health of an organization.
